A small talk from Shaw Hong.

This talk held for 2 weeks but I miss the first talk
because of some personal reasons.
After listening to the talk,
I kinda feel disappointing on not able to go for the first talk.

Sad face. =(

I felt that the talk was kind of interesting.
The talk was about modernism and modernity but focused on under
a topic which is stereotyping.

I kind have a strong memory on him talking about
american design Nike shoe with Obama face on it and they were okay with it.

But let's think in another way,
if we were to put our country prime minister's face on a shoe.
I think a lot of the people here will have different opinion with it.
Most of the people think that shoe is something dirty which you step on the floor everything.
Do you think the prime minister will let us step on his face everyday?
It's kind of subjective question.
To the west, they think that they are supporting him by wearing it everyday.
But Asian, mostly do not think that.

Another example of shoes and cloths.

Chanel handbag with the flag on it.

Even converse that the flag design on it. ^^

England national flag is kinda use as a fashion trend nowadays.
They been printed on cloths, pants, shoes, bads and etc.
People kinda love it and buy these design
although they are not from that country.

This is Switzerland flag on Nike shoe.

We can clearly see that Asian do not put their national flag as design.
To them, it must be place in a respectful place.

I have a question in my head now.
If your country citizens,
all wearing other country design of stuff.
Will it look like they are supporting other country but yours?
LOL
This question just kinda POP UP in my head.

But in my opnion,
by placing our flag as design does not mean that we do not respect it
but to show how we love our country that much
until we wear them every single day.

Thank you to Shaw Hong
for sharing all these.
I took it and learn it and I like it.

Post Modernism

Hmmm~~
I first thought that it will be very similar with modernism.
But it was wrong.
In Wiki, it define that postmodernism is a philosophical movement away from
the viewpoint of modernism.
So What Is It Actually?

Hmmmmm~~~
She so cute right? ^^

Okay. Lets get back to the topic.
Erm.
Postmodernism. >.<
During the lecture of this title,
I found out that postmodernism comes the feeling of uncertainty.
There is no certain rules for it.
For modernism, people feel that its weird to look at but they still feel that
it's okay to look at.
But for postmodernism, people will think that it's look like a rubbish
or maybe
WTF was that?
People intend to critic it or discuss about it because of the uncomfortable.
Not much people can except the fact of post modernism.

For example, tattoos and body art.
At first, tattoos were kind of a cool thing for me.
It looks nice on one part of the body.

See!
It looks pretty in a way.
But somehow people wanted to try new stuff
and they start to have body art which is similar with tattoos,
but it can be wash out.

Body art on the whole ENTIRE BODY!!!!
OMG.

Later on, they got to another level.
The design of it start to look 3D.

Finally, people start to tattoo on their whole body.
OMG!!
And IT"S GONNA BE PERMANENT like FOREVER on the body!!!
I know that a small part of tattoo is very very pain.
But
THE WHOLE BODY?
I can't even think of it.

To me, this is too much for it.
I feel scary whenever i see one with my own eyes.
But I believe that maybe 20 or 30 years,
it will somehow be a normal thing happening around.

So, yeah.
Postmodernism is something which cannot be accepted by most of the people.
So if you want to go on to the future,
start adapting it.

" Okie Dokie"
As for me too. XD

Modernism

What is modernism all about?
At first, i was thinking about traditional vs modernism.
In my opinion, modernism is the opposite of traditional.
On the research that i did, i found out that there does not have a fix date for this.
It was written that it starts after the world war 2 which is during the 19 century.

In my point of view, modernism is something which is far far away from realism.
Modernism is showing something which let people think
and find out what is it all about.

This is one of the example of modernism in art.
This is an oil painting name as 'The Gate' by Hans Hofmann, 1959-60.
A lot of people think that it was a unique piece and a masterpiece for them.
But to me, i think that it just colors on canvas.
What so unique about it?

Then later on,
I found out that modernism is a way how you
express your feeling.
We can do thing in a much more creative way
by not only doing standard stuff.
Modernism slowly changes the fix idea of things.
By using the old idea and transform the same thing into another type of interpretation.

Kuala Lumpur during the world war 2.

Kuala Lumpur 2011.

This is another type of my understanding.
The first image show the picture of Kuala Lumpur during the world war 2
and the second picture show the picture show the picture
of Kuala Lumpur in the 21st century.
We can see a lot of changes in the city.
This show that the country is getting modern and modern.

This is what i understand from it.XD
